Using
Pirch98 &
TurboPirch
With The Proxy Connection Servers
Setting
Up Pirch
TurboPirch
can be downloaded from http://www.pirch.com/download.html
If someone has a good download link to Pirch98 please let me
know and we will add the link here.
You will need an account with The Proxy Connection before using
our proxy servers. To get total access to all of the Proxy Connection
services and access to hundreds of proxy servers click
here to sign up. The cost is only $24.95 per
month.
Step
#1 Select
Which Proxy You Would Like To Use
Before we
get started you will need to select which proxy server from
our list that you would like to use. All that you will need
to start is an IP address and the SOCKS port for that IP. As
shown below each proxy server has a socks port and IP address
listed for each. You can view the complete real list by clicking
HERE
or visiting http://theproxyconnection.com/httplist.html

For
this lesson we have chosen DSL-NET.ORG as our proxy server.

Step
#2 Configure
TurboPirch To Use The Proxy Server
In
all of our tests the Pirch98 and TurboPirch proxy settings do
not work.
It seems that they may have been designed for LOCAL proxy only.
DO NOT USE THE PROXY SETTINGS INSIDE THE PIRCH CONFIGURATION.
To use Pirch with the proxy, you will need to download sockscap.
To download sockscap or view sockscap settings and instructions
click on the link below:
http://theproxyconnection.com/socks.html
Step
#3
After
you have configured sockscap, click and drag your pirch shortcut
icon into the sockscap control window and choose New Application
profile. Click ok on the configuration box and you will now
see the shortcut icon in the control window.
You
can click and drag the icon back to your desktop to make a new
"sockscap+Prich icon" to make launching easy from
your desktop.
Having a sockscap shortcut will not require you to open sockscap
each time that you would like to launch Pirch.
When
you start Pirch using the sockscap icon you will automatically
be using the proxy. In the capture to your right, we have sockscap
configured to use our proxy server DSL-NET.ORG on port 1080.
You
can control the user name by changing your email name when using
one of our proxy servers that do not use the IDENT service.
Step #4

To change your proxy server name, simply change your sockscap
settings to use another of our proxy servers. This is done by
clicking on "File" and then selecting "Settings"
from the sockscap control window.
For this lesson we have chosen DSL-NET.ORG as our proxy server
and have entered it into the sockscap settings as shown to your
right.
You can enter the host name DSL-NET.ORG or the IP address 63.127.192.136.
The port for this server is the standard socks port 1080. Be
sure to enter the correct user name and password that we sent
to you in email when you signed up for our service.
NOTE: If you are using Dal.net or another server
that requires IDENT, you will need to use one of our
proxy servers that include IDENT to be able to connect these
IRC servers. All of the proxy servers on Machine # 4, Machine
# 5, Machine # 6 and Machine # 7 use the IDENT service.

SOCKS
5 And Sockscap Support
If you have problems read the
sockscap support page. Sockscap is a freeware program put out
by NEC. Many people like using sockscap when they have many
different Internet programs because once sockscap is configured
for the proxy server, you do not need to configure any of your
Internet programs. Simply click and drag your Internet programs
into the sockscap program control window, start the program,
and you are running on the proxy! It is this easy. Full instructions
for downloading and setting up sockscap can be found here.
